✊🩸🐮 Join us as we march to close all slaughterhouses in St. Louis and beyond!

Slaughterhouses are places of:

• 🔪 unimaginable violence

• 💔 grotesque suffering

• 💀 and horrific death

They cause profound harm to humans, animals, and the environment—

• 😱 Animals suffer horrifically and endure extreme distress at slaughterhouses.

• 👷‍♂️ Slaughterhouses exploit workers and cause PTSD.

• ☣️ Slaughterhouses pollute entire communities.

By marching, we will:

1. ✊ demand the abolition of slaughterhouses and the permanent cessation of animal slaughter

2. 📢 build pressure to shut down existing and proposed slaughterhouses in the St. Louis region

3. 🗽 and champion a slaughter-free world where animals live safe, happy, and free

Over 80 billion animals suffer and die needlessly in slaughterhouses each year. This event is your opportunity to protest their gruesome fates while building momentum for a slaughter-free St. Louis.

What are you waiting for? Join the slaughter-free movement today!

🐷📚🌙 Join us for the second meeting of The Uncaged Page, St. Louis’ only vegan book club, as we discuss “The Pig Who Sang to the Moon,” a groundbreaking exploration of the emotional world of farm animals by Jeffrey Moussaieff Masson!

To celebrate World Day for Farmed Animals (Oct. 2) and Project Animal Freedom’s eighth birthday (Oct. 19), we return our attention to the foundation of our activism, namely, the immeasurable value of our nonhuman neighbors and the incredible inner lives they live.

Drawing on five years of firsthand observation on farms and at sanctuaries, Masson (author of the bestseller “When Elephants Weep”) makes the case that the animals we call “livestock” think, feel, and suffer, and that an animal is happy only when free to live according to their own nature.

Weaving together science, history, folklore, and personal encounters, this eye-opening book devotes a chapter to each of the animals we farm the most, revealing:

• 🐷 pigs who dream, know their names, and even save human lives

• 🐔 chickens who make friends and roost together in the treetops at night

• 🐑 sheep who balance their own diets and goats who face down leopards

• 🐄 mother cows who mourn their stolen calves

• 🦆 and ducks and geese who love their mates and their young

Set against the brutal reality awaiting the vast majority of these animals on today’s farms, their stories remind us why we do what we do.

As The Uncaged Page vegan book club, we seek to liberate our hearts and minds from the prejudices that bind us, to liberate our nonhuman friends from captivity and exploitation, and to liberate our world from injustice, one page at a time.

The Uncaged Page Book Club is for you if you:

• 💚 enjoy learning more about veganism, animal rights, and social justice

• 🧠 desire stimulating conversations about thought-provoking issues connected to animals

• ✊ want to help animals by educating yourself about their plights, effective activism, and much more

A project of Project Animal Freedom, this initiative takes place at Adina’s Vegan Cuisine on the third Wednesday of the month every month. Missed our September launch? No problem! Each month’s book stands on its own, so newcomers are always welcome.

At 277 pages, the book is an easy read cover to cover, but if you’re short on time, we encourage you to prioritize the chapters on pigs, chickens, and cows (extra credit for sheep, goats, and ducks, or any other chapter that sparks your interest).

🐶🥩🤠 Join us for our first-ever “dog meat” tasting, hosted at Soulard Farmers Market!

That’s right: we’re bringing Elwood’s Organic Dog Meat, the internet’s most infamous family farm, to the streets of St. Louis.

At this deliciously deadpan demonstration, we will:

1. 🍖 Serve free samples of “dog meat” to unsuspecting passersby (100% vegan, 0% dog)

2. 🐷 Ask one simple question: why do we love dogs but eat pigs?

3. 💚 Spark kind, curious conversations about veganism, one free sample at a time

Elwood’s dogs are free-range, local, organic, antibiotic-free, and humanely slaughtered. Sound familiar? That’s the point.

Elwood’s isn’t real. But the outrage it sparks is, and so is the question behind it: if the thought of eating a Labrador turns your stomach, why doesn't the thought of eating a pig, an animal every bit as sensitive and loving as any dog?

Most people never think about this at all. Our job is to make them think: with a smile, a free sample, and a menu they’ll never forget.

This tongue-in-cheek action is for you if you:

• 🐶 love dogs (and want people to love pigs, cows, and chickens just as much)

• 😂 believe humor can open hearts that arguments can’t

• 🌱 are looking for a fun, low-pressure first action

🤠 HOW IT WORKS:

We’ll set up shop with Elwood’s signage, menus, and farmhand badges, then offer free samples of “Pug Bacon,” “Labrador Steaks,” and other farm favorites to anyone who walks by. When people recoil (and they will), we’ll gently ask why. No gotchas, no lectures, and nothing about any other country or culture: this is about us and our own double standards. As Elwood’s likes to put it, anyone upset by the farm is simply having a vegan experience.

All samples are 100% vegan. Dogs are welcome (as guests, not as samples).

🐾 ABOUT ELWOOD’S ORGANIC DOG MEAT:

Elwood’s has offered “delicious dog, since 1981.” Or, more accurately, since 2021, when vegan activist (and standup comic) Molly Elwood launched a satirical “family farm” that markets dog meat using the same language real farms use to sell pigs, cows, and chickens. The farm has since racked up over 4 million website visitors, an ad campaign on the London Underground, and “dog meat” tastings from Toronto to Zagreb. Not bad for a farm with no dogs.

Every animal deserves to live safe, happy, and free, whether they sleep at the foot of your bed or behind the walls of a factory farm. What are you waiting for? RSVP today and become an honorary Elwood’s farmhand!

🎭📺🐄 Join us for the grand relaunch of the St. Louis chapter of Anonymous for the Voiceless—hosted at Ritz Park!

This riveting, impact-driven demo will feature:

• 📺 TV screens playing standard-practice footage from factory farms and slaughterhouses for onlookers to witness

• 💬 Structured outreach conversations that help passersby make the connection and go vegan

• 📜 Your chance to be a meaningful part of St. Louis animal rights history as our AV chapter comes back to life

This event is for you if you:

• 🎭 Would rather hold a screen in silence and let the footage do the talking

• 🗣️ Love a good one-on-one conversation and want to get better at them

• 🌱 Are new to activism and want a peaceful, structured first action

What is Anonymous for the Voiceless?

Anonymous for the Voiceless (AV) is an international vegan activism organization that specializes in street outreach. Founded in Melbourne, Australia, in 2016, AV now has hundreds of chapters around the world, and the Cube of Truth is its signature action. Silent volunteers in Anonymous masks stand in formation holding screens and TRUTH signs. Outreach volunteers talk one-on-one with the people who stop to watch. No chanting. No bullhorns. Just the footage, a question, and a conversation.

Why the masks? So the attention stays on the animals, not on us.

What to know

Wear all black, the AV uniform. Masks, signs, and screens will be provided. New to the Cube? You’ll get a quick briefing on both roles before we set up.

RSVP below and invite a friend!

🧠✊🕊️ Join us as we march to prevent suicide, advance mental health, and fight for people with disabilities!

Suicide is often a very painful process that is frequently a result of despair, overwhelm, and neglect. At Project Animal Freedom, we are proud to support people struggling with suicidal ideation, other mental health issues, and a full range of disabilities.

We have protected, upheld, and venerated people in our community with mental health challenges and disabilities, and we would like to extend that work by officially participating in the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention’s annual Out of the Darkness St. Louis Walk.

By walking with us, you will:

1. 💜 Help raise awareness about suicide prevention

2. 💭 De-stigmatize mental health struggles

3. 🤲 Support fellow community members, suicide survivors, and their loved ones

This cross-movement advocacy is critical, not only in theory, but because of how suicide has touched so many of our lives. Plenty of us have lost loved ones to suicide, and many of us struggle with suicidal ideation and other difficult mental health struggles.

We strive to build a more resiliently anti-ableist animal rights movement, and that starts not just with empathy, but with a commitment to meaningfully helping others. Through this action, we will champion neurodiversity, mental health, and disability rights.

Whether you march with us as a survivor or simply join as a concerned citizen, this walk is the perfect opportunity to express solidarity with those experiencing suicidal ideation, other mental health challenges, and/or struggling with disabilities like depression.

Suicidal and disabled people have so much to offer the world, our community, and our movement. Let’s show them we care and are willing to help.

What are you waiting for? Join us as we celebrate hope and healing!

🦜🪧📢 Join us as we protest Petco’s exploitation and mistreatment of birds as part of one of PETA’s latest campaigns!

This bold demonstration will feature:

1. 🪧 Eye-catching signs and banners speaking up for birds

2. 🦜 Powerful visuals from PETA’s undercover investigation

3. 🗣️ Friendly outreach to shoppers and passersby

This event is for you if you:

• ⛅ Believe birds belong in the sky, not on store shelves

• 🐶 Want to defend victims of the pet trade

• ☮️ Are looking for a welcoming, peaceful first action

Where do the parakeets in Petco’s cages come from? PETA’s three-month undercover investigation into Creekside Birds, a breeding operation in Petco’s supply chain, documented workers tearing the heads off living birds, crushing parakeets’ necks, and denying sick and injured birds veterinary care for weeks on end.

After talks with PETA, Petco has already stopped selling larger birds like cockatoos and macaws. The next step is obvious: end the sale of birds altogether. Until Petco acts, advocates are urging shoppers to steer clear of the chain.

Activists have already brought this campaign to Petco stores in Chicago, New York, and Albuquerque. Now it's St. Louis’ turn. Project Animal Freedom is proud to fight alongside PETA and help protect every parakeet bred, boxed, and sold as if she were a product instead of a person.

This will be a peaceful, legal demonstration. First-timers are welcome, and no experience is needed. We’ll have signs ready for you!

To take part, all you have to do is:

• ✅ RSVP below

• ✅ Show up ready to advocate for the birds

• ✅ Apply to volunteer with Project Animal Freedom here

“The Humane Hoax” contains no fewer than 18 essays penned by movement leaders exposing the myth of happy meat, humane dairy, and ethical eggs.

Exploring the timely topics of humanewashing and greenwashing, this expansive volume also tackles how so-called alternative animal agriculture:

• 🤥 relies on deceptive language and labeling

• ♀️ intersects with feminism

• 🌎 affects the environment

• 📺 is represented in the media

• 💔 and impacts human and nonhuman communities alike

As The Uncaged Page vegan book club, we seek to liberate our hearts and minds from the prejudices that bind us, to liberate our nonhuman friends from captivity and exploitation, and to liberate our world from injustice, one page at a time.

A project of Project Animal Freedom, this initiative will take place at Adina’s Vegan Cuisine on the third Wednesday of the month every month, starting this September.

Due to the length and nature of the text, we encourage you to prioritize the Introduction, Conclusion, and Chapters 1, 5, 8, and 13 (extra credit for Chapters 2, 3, 10, 15, or any others that spark your interest).

✊⚖️🌎 Join us for a vegan banner drop on World Day for the End of Speciesism!

Through this high-impact action, we will:

1. 🐷 Raise awareness about the injustice of speciesism

2. 👎 Denounce speciesist discrimination

3. 🗽 Champion a future where all beings live safe, happy, and free

Over 100 cities in 28 different countries partook in this coordinated day of action last year, united around five core demands:

• 1️⃣ Create a new legal category for animals that abolishes their property status

• 2️⃣ Launch global education campaigns against speciesism and for nonviolence

• 3️⃣ Build a nonviolent dietary culture free from fishing, slaughter, and other cruelty

• 4️⃣ Advance ethical research without animal exploitation or torture

• 5️⃣ Ensure all environmental decisions consider animals’ interests, including those of wildlife

PETA has provided a giant banner that will reach thousands of passersby in just minutes. Its message is clear: end speciesism—and end all forms of oppression, including racism, sexism, and ableism.

At this political moment, a consistent anti-oppression message has never been more critical, urgent, or necessary.

Please join us as we fight for a future rooted in justice and nurtured by compassion!

🐓🍕💚 Join Second-Hen’d, St. Louis’ leading “spent hen” adoption nonprofit, as they celebrate 10 years of saving hens from being killed!

At this joyous community celebration, you can:

1. 🍕 Enjoy delicious vegan pizza from Pizza Head

2. 💚 Connect with the leaders spearheading this critical, life-saving work

3. 🐔 Meet the chickens themselves and spend quality time with them

4. 🎓 Learn about chickens’ personalities, needs, and remarkable capacity for companionship

5. 🏡 Discover how Second-Hen’d helps former egg-industry hens find safe, loving forever homes

🐣 Ten Years of Second Chances

Second-Hen’d was “hatched” in 2016 after founder Erica Camp searched for a Missouri organization dedicated to rehoming former commercial egg-laying hens and discovered that no such local organization existed. Rather than accept that these hens had nowhere to go, she created Second-Hen’d.

The all-volunteer nonprofit works with commercial egg facilities to save hens who would otherwise be killed after the industry determines that their egg production is no longer profitable. Although these birds are commonly labeled “spent” at only one or two years old, they can still have many happy, meaningful years ahead of them.

Second-Hen’d carefully places the hens with committed adopters who promise to protect them, never sell or kill them for meat, and provide them with permanent, loving homes. By April 2025, the organization had already helped more than 1,000 chickens begin the next chapter of their lives.

🐔 Chickens Are Someone, Not Something

Second-Hen’d does more than rehome hens. Through public education, community programs, and personal encounters with the birds themselves, the organization helps people recognize chickens as intelligent, social, emotionally complex individuals.

Their outreach has included chicken-care classes, school and library visits, and the Chooks with Books program, which gives children—including children with autism—opportunities to read, learn, and enjoy positive sensory experiences alongside chickens.

Every hen Second-Hen’d saves is an individual: someone with her own personality, preferences, friendships, and desire to live. By finding adopters and forever homes, Second-Hen’d gives hens once treated as disposable commodities the opportunity to be valued as beloved family members.

🥳 Celebrate the Hens (and the Humans Helping Them!)

Whether you are interested in adopting hens, want to learn more about chickens, or simply love animals and vegan pizza, you belong at this Summer Flock Party!

Come celebrate a decade of compassion, meet some unforgettable feathered friends, and honor the volunteers and adopters who have helped save more than a thousand hens from being killed.

Together, we can build a community where no animal is considered “spent” and where every hen has the opportunity to live safely, happily, and freely.

🥚😱🩸 Join us as part of PETA’s latest campaign to expose the harm behind cage-free eggs!

During this friendly “egg-sposé,” we will:

1. 🎓 Educate the public about what feel-good marketing terms like “cage-free” actually mean

2. 🤒 Expose the suffering caused by the egg industry, no matter the label

3. 💚 Distribute Just Egg to encourage compassionate, plant-based living

Cage-free eggs are often promoted as a major victory for animals, but the reality is far more complicated.

Here are five reasons advocates are taking a closer look:

🩹 Cage-Free Does Not Mean Cruelty-Free

Hens in cage-free facilities may still endure severe overcrowding, painful bone fractures, aggression, respiratory illness, infectious disease, and chronic stress.

🐣 More Hens May Be Harmed

Cage-free hens often produce fewer marketable eggs. Maintaining the same level of egg production may therefore require exploiting more birds, potentially increasing total suffering.

🌎 The Environmental Impact May Be Greater

Cage-free systems can require more feed, resources, and hens per egg produced, resulting in higher greenhouse-gas emissions than conventional caged production.

🏭 Humane Labels Can Hide Industrial Conditions

“Cage-free” may conjure images of hens roaming freely outdoors, but many remain confined inside crowded industrial buildings. The label can reassure consumers without accurately showing how the birds actually live.

🌱 We Need More Transformative Solutions

Focusing on cage-free conversions may divert attention from reducing egg consumption, promoting vegan alternatives, and confronting the broader system that treats animals as production units.

⚖️ The Final Verdict

Cage-free may sound like progress, but meaningful change requires asking whether these campaigns truly reduce suffering or simply place a more compassionate label on the same exploitative industry.

Together, we will not merely challenge the animal-abuse industry; we will help dismantle it.

Please join us for this critical outreach effort as we challenge humane-washing, undermine support for animal cruelty, and show the public that animals deserve freedom, not better labels.

🐔📢✊ Join local PETA supporters and Project Animal Freedom as we peacefully protest Raising Cane’s and speak up for chickens!

Chickens are some of the most abused animals on the planet. In the United States alone, approximately 9 billion chickens are killed for their flesh every year, and the vast majority spend their entire lives in confinement—from the moment they hatch until the day they are slaughtered.

By attending this protest, you will:

1. 📣 advocate for chickens trapped in the fast-food industry

2. 💔 raise awareness about the horrific suffering these animals endure

3. 🌱 encourage the public to choose compassion by going vegan

All animals deserve to live safe, happy, and free from violence. Yet chickens are treated like products instead of individuals, suffering terribly before their bodies end up in fast-food bags.

Please join us as we come together for chickens and call for a kinder world!

❗ IMPORTANT DETAILS:

Please dress sharply in a PETA T-shirt, nice pants, and close-toed shoes. PETA will provide a shirt if you do not already have one. This dress code is required so the focus stays where it belongs: on the animals.

All materials, including posters, will be provided.

Please refrain from bringing dogs, as there may not be a comfortable place for them to lie down during the protest.

🗽🇺🇸🦅 Join us as we demand freedom for all animals on the 4th of July!

Why? Freedom is an American ideal, and all animals deserve to live safe, happy, and free. Yet billions of animals live some of the most unfree lives imaginable in:

• 🏭 factory farms

• 🔪 slaughterhouses

• 🐭 and other animal-abusing facilities

By marching with us on Animal Freedom Day, you will:

1. 🐵 champion the rights of nonhuman animals

2. 😿 raise awareness about their plight

3. 🗽 and build the movement for animal freedom

All people are born with certain inalienable rights, including life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. It is our duty to ensure that these rights are extended to all animals, because justice for all means justice for animals.

Their freedom is our freedom. Now let’s fight for it!
